HOUSE BILL

Starting with the 2025-2026 school year, a new Texas law prohibits the student use of personal communication devices during the instructional day.  This applies to cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, etc.  Rankin ISD will follow this law as it applies to all public school districts in Texas.

This does not change the cell phone policy very much at Rankin JS/HS.  Students are expected to put their cell phones, smartwatches, or any other type of personal device in their cell phone locker.  We will no longer charge a $15 fee.  All cell phone violations will be handled as a discipline situation that will lead to detentions and possible In-School Suspension.  Cell phones will be allowed at lunch.  Our policy at our elementary school is that cell phones will be stored in the student’s backpack for the entire day.

This law is meant to create a more successful learning environment with fewer distractions for our students.

Parents-Please be aware of this policy and discuss this new law with your child.  Your support is vital for the success of our students and in creating a positive and productive learning environment.
